Driving Change at Our 2026 Annual Golf Tournament

The 2026 Central Valley Habitat for Humanity Annual Golf Tournament brought teams from across the Valley together for a day of friendly competition with a larger purpose in mind. The tournament supports our work building and repairing safe, affordable homes for local families, and this year's turnout showed just how much that work matters.

On Friday, May 29th, the sun was climbing over the Valley at Spotswood Country Club, the grass was still cool, and the first cups of coffee were making their way around as teams arrived for 6:30 a.m. registration. Krispy Kreme, Mr J's Bagels, and Starbucks on Hillside got the morning started off right, fueling early tee times before the 7:30 a.m. start sent the whole field off together.

Competing for Something Bigger

Feedback from participants across both flights was overwhelmingly positive, and the 2026 tournament made a strong case for why this is one of the most well-regarded community golf events in the Harrisonburg area.

Teams played across a morning flight and an afternoon flight, bringing energy and camaraderie to every hole. Some were chasing first place and others were simply enjoying a round with colleagues and friends, but everyone understood they were playing for more than a trophy.

Every team that signed up was helping a local family move closer to a safe, stable place to call home. The competition was real, and so was the cause behind it.

By 11:00 a.m., the morning flight was wrapping up just as the afternoon crowd rolled in, and the two groups came together to refuel and swap stories over a delicious barbecue lunch from Hank's, served up alongside fellow lunch sponsors Interchange, Shickel Corporation, and Jim and Judy Tongue. Pepsi, Virginia Eagle, and Water Works kept everyone refreshed from the first tee to the final green.

Where These Funds Are Going

Thirty-one teams took to the course, and together they raised $56,000 for affordable housing in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. That is nearly $9,000 more than last year and one of the strongest fundraising totals this event has ever seen.

Affordable homeownership can change the trajectory of a family's life. It means safety, security, and a real sense of community. Central Valley Habitat for Humanity partners with hardworking families across the region, helping them build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Longtime volunteer and board member Larry Brown, who has worked with Habitat in Harrisonburg since 2010, puts it this way.

"One of the things I find about Habitat in particular is that we all share the interest in helping others help themselves… It's the old phrase, it's a hand up instead of a hand out."

Those dollars support new affordable housing builds where partner families invest their own sweat equity to construct their future homes. They also fund critical home repair projects that help longtime homeowners stay safely in the homes they already have.

We believe every family deserves a place to call home, and every dollar raised on that course is a dollar working for someone in the Shenandoah Valley. That is what makes this tournament matter beyond the scorecard.

Morning Flight

The morning flight brought tight scoring across the board. Kline Electric took home first place with a score of 56, followed by Sheercast Structures in second with a 58, and F&M Bank rounding out the top three with a score of 60.

Afternoon Flight

A second shotgun start sent the afternoon flight onto the course at 1:30 p.m., and it came down to a single stroke separating the top three teams. Riner Rentals claimed first place with a score of 58, VMRC finished second with a 59, and AM Yoder took third with another 59 in one of the closest finishes of the day.

The Partners Who Powered It

None of this happens without the businesses and community partners who choose to give back to something bigger than a golf tournament. From the sponsors who fueled the morning and catered lunch to the many local businesses that donated hospitality bags, signage, printing, and prizes, their generosity ran through every part of the day. To every sponsor at every level, thank you. Your support is a direct investment in the families we serve right here in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, and we hope to see your partnership continue for years to come.
