Central Valley Habitat’s Vision for 2026

For many families across the Shenandoah Valley, finding a safe and affordable place to live has become harder with each passing year. At Central Valley Habitat for Humanity, we see firsthand how these pressures affect working families who are trying to build a stable life. As we look ahead to 2026, it’s clear that continuing at the same pace will not meet the level of need in our community.

Expanding Our Ability to Serve

Our goal moving into 2026 is to expand our capacity so we can build more homes each year. Rather than focusing on one or two homes at a time, we are preparing to build five, six, or even ten homes annually. This change allows us to better respond to the realities of today’s housing market while staying rooted in Habitat’s partnership model. Families are still active participants in building their homes and their futures.

Building on a Proven Approach

We’ve already seen what’s possible through our recent Suter Street development in Harrisonburg, where 22 homes were completed in partnership with PDY, LLC. That neighborhood is coming together as a thriving, connected community, and it has become a model for how we approach future projects. The experience helped us refine our processes, strengthen partnerships, and establish a sustainable rhythm for larger developments. Those lessons are guiding our next steps.

Where Our Work is Headed

Our next major project will be on Reservoir Street, where we plan to build between 11 and 13 affordable homes in the heart of the city. This development reflects our belief that stable housing can be a foundation for families to grow, plan, and create lasting memories. As this project moves forward, community involvement will continue to play a critical role. Reservoir Street will be built through shared effort, just like the homes that came before it.

If you’d like to be a part of our rapidly growing mission to provide working families a hand-up, not a handout, we encourage you to learn more about how to volunteer at the link below.
