Helping Seniors Age in Place
Our mission has always been about more than building houses; it is about creating safe, stable, and livable homes for everyone in our community. We cannot achieve this mission without partnerships. Our partnership with Sentara’s CAPABLE program is making a major difference for local seniors by helping adults age safely in their own homes.
Personalized Support That Starts at Home
The CAPABLE program, founded by Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, pairs an occupational therapist or registered nurse with a handy person to work directly with seniors. They find practical and personalized solutions together that make homes safer and more livable. From small modifications like grab bars to larger home repairs, every improvement is guided by the participant’s own goals.
Stephanie Webb, the Supervisor of Inpatient Case Management, shares, “Our favorite part of the program is the participants. Seeing their excitement over little changes that make their home safer and more comfortable is priceless. The partnership makes that impact possible.”
Healthcare Meets Home Repair
This program works hand in hand with our critical home repair initiatives. Many seniors do not have the financial means or access to hire a plumber or electrician for essential repairs. By combining medical guidance with technical repair skills, our partnership allows seniors to stay in their homes longer.
As Stephanie Webb shared, “Unlike traditional health care, where solutions may not be fully implemented, this partnership ensures nothing is left incomplete.” We’re proud to work in a partnership that provides such a wide range of care to individuals in our community.
If you or someone you know is in need of home repairs to make your space more accessible, apply for our program today.
