From Foundation to Future: The Power of Trade Partners
It starts with an empty lot—a stretch of grass and gravel—and a shared belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live. At Central Valley Habitat for Humanity, turning that empty space into a home takes more than blueprints. It takes people. And among the most vital are our trade partners.
They show up with trucks, tools, and time—but more than that, they show up with heart. They bring their skills, their staff, and often their own stories. On Suter Street, you can see the impact in real time: where there was once open dirt, now stand strong foundations, sturdy framing, clean roofing, and freshly sided homes. As our Executive Director David Wenger says, “That kind of progress doesn’t happen alone.
Who Are Trade Partners?
Trade partners are the contractors, builders, and local businesses who make home construction possible. They install HVAC systems, pour concrete, hang drywall, and donate materials—often at a reduced rate or entirely pro bono.
And with the rising costs of labor and materials, their generosity has never been more vital. “The cost of building is just increasing,” David explains. “Without the trade partners, we wouldn’t be able to keep that under control.”
Craftsmanship with Compassion
For many of our trade partners, working with Habitat is about more than just a job.
Ed Painter, owner of Painter’s Drywall & Remodeling, has been with us for more than five years. “We do drywall, painting, floors—a little bit of everything. I put my heart and soul into this business when my dad turned it over to me. Being a trade partner with Habitat—it’s a privilege.”
That kind of long-standing partnership reflects something deeper than contracts or invoices—it reflects trust, shared purpose, and a commitment to the families we serve.
Brandon Garst, Production Manager at Davenport Valley Installation, says it best: “We work on so many jobs throughout the year, but when you do something like this in your own community—and then drive by and see the people already living in the house—it gives you a sense of accomplishment.”
